Last May/09 we had the first meeting with the local community, more specifically with the community of fisherman of Crasto, which is the biggest village (1.900 habitants) after the main city of Santa Luzia do Itanhy. In this meeting we introduced who we are and what we are planning to do, trying to make clear that this has to be a cooperative relationship. Also, we were searching for a place to use as an office until our office can be build (see text about CVT).
To host IPTI we agreed that the best place would be a house that belongs to the community and used to be a club for the fisherman but it is abandoned in last years (see photos below). This became for us a great opportunity to start this collaborative relationship with the local community. We will use a building that belongs to the community and has some iconic meaning for them and we will renew this house and give it back in usable conditions when our office is ready.
The house has 200 square meters (10 x 20 meters) and it is installed in a very privileges area, just in front of the river. Now our challenge is to get the funds to renew the house, but step by step we go there. We hope we can soon send you new photos after the renew process.
