Proposals submitted

**Report 01-2008

THP's partners submitted a total of 5 proposals in different calls, incluiding the one submitted last year within the Canadian iCURA call (Stretch: Supporting Human Diversity through Inclusive Design). The new 4 proposals are:

  1. Art, Science and Technology in Education: a proposal for human development – submitted by Humbiumbi to Petrobras call last January 11th together with several partners: IPTI, Instituto Ayrton Senna, Instituto Amuirandê, SergipeTec, State Secretary for Development, Science and Technology, State Secretary for Education, City of Santa Luzia do Itanhi. The aim of this proposal is to develop and implement a methodological approach of using art, science and technology to enhance the teaching/learning process, also fostering an active participation of all people involved (teachers and schoolars). Humbiumbi is responsible for the art aspect, IPTI for science and technology and Amuirandê for environment education. The total ammount requested to Petrobras was R$ 338.000,00 for a 12 months project. Results should be annouced by the end of May/2008.
  2. Creating a Science Center in the South Territory of Sergipe – proposal submitted by IPTI to a CNPq public call last January 22th. The idea is to create a science center in Santa Luzia to centralize activities of dissemination and popularization of science in all 28 state schools located at the south region of Sergipe, distributed in 11 cities. Our proposal is to work with natural sciences (chemical, biology and physics) by putting art (photography, cinema, dance, etc) in the center of the process. The total ammount requested to CNPq was R$ 380.000,00 for a 30 months project. Results should be annouced in March/2008.
  3. Culture and Development: creative economy project to improve work and income – submitted by IPTI to IADB (Interamerican Bank for Development) last January 18th. The aim of this project is to improve the quality and value of the local handworks (embroidery and straw) by incoporating identity (local iconography) to such kind of work done in Santa Luzia. The total ammount requested to IADB was U$ 149.646,00 for a 24 months project. Results should be annouced in April/2008.
  4. Fellowship for Regional Scientific Development – proposal sumitted by IPTI to Fapitec (research funding agency in Sergipe) last January 31st to support the first THP rsearcher in Sergipe. This fellowship is for 36 months and the state provided a small grant for a lab. Results should be annouced in March/2008.
All these projects together will be enough to support THP kick off activities during the first 2 years. The projects 1 and 3 are crucial for THP. Project 1 because we defined that our relation to the local community will occur trough education. Also it is important because it will be possible Humbiumbi to establish a cultural center in Santa Luzia. Project 3 because THP main activities can transform the local reality only in a long term period (8-10 years) and we need to have activities that can increase income and self-stime in order to give us time and also to avoid emigration of youth for more developed regions, as the only perspective.
